FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

01

How is Solid Surface different from other materials?

Solid Surface has multiple design features that neither Quartz nor Natural Stone can achieve. Bonded seams at joints, and integral sinks and lavatories distinguish Solid Surface from other materials. Solid Surface is so clean and hygienic that it is now AIA-recommended for hospitals. Since Solid Surface is non-porous and easy to clean, it does not support the growth of mold or mildew. If scratched or burned, Solid Surface is easily renewable to its original appearance, and may last a lifetime.

02

Why is Solid Surface a good value?

Solid surface is a durable material that retains its performance-integrity over time. It's hygienic, easy to maintain, and offers versatility and advantages not available with other surfacing materials.

03

Can I place a hot pot directly on Solid Surface?

While Solid Surface is considered 'heat resistant', 'hot' is a difficult term to adequately define. As a rule, hot pads or trivets are always recommended to provide protection.

04

How do I care for Solid Surface?

Routine maintenance is easily accomplished with abrasive powdered cleansers (Ajax, etc.) and a sponge. For more stubborn stains, use abrasive powder cleanser with a Scotch-brite pad. A 50/50 bleach and water concentrate is good for stubborn stains in the sink, and for sanitizing.

05

What are Quartz Surfacing surfaces?

For practical purposes, think 'man-made granite'. Quartz Surfaces are comprised of 93% crushed quartz with polymer resin fillers and proprietary color pigments. It is stain resistant, scratch resistant, and extremely hard. Unlike natural granite, Quartz Surfaces are non-porous, and consistent in their composition (natural stone has fissures and weaknesses). Typical kitchen or bath applications will have either a top-mount or under-mount sink, visible grout joints, and loose splash.

06

Can Quartz Surfacing be used in food preparation areas?

Zodiaq and Silestone are NSF 51 Compliant which means it passes any government regulations for food preparation or direct contact with food. Natural stone does not meet that criteria because of its porosity.

07

What are the design capabilities of Quartz Surfacing?

Silestone slab size is 55" x 120"

Zodiaq Slab size is 52" x 118"

08

What care and maintenance does Quartz Surfacing require?

Soap and water are typically used to clean Quartz Surfaces. Stubborn stains may require a small amount of non-bleach, non-abrasive cleanser. Unlike natural granite, Quartz Surfaces do not require periodic re-sealing, and come with 10-year transferable warranties.

09

How well does Quartz Surfacing withstand heat, scratches, and stains?

Quartz is heat resistant but it is highly recommended to use hot pads or trivets. Quartz is one of the hardest natural products, so it is very scratch resistant. Because of its unique nonporous characteristic, Quartz Surfacing is stain resistant.

What is the difference between Quartz Surfacing and Solid Surface?

Solid Surface: seamless joints due to chemical bonding; a variety of finish and edge options; a wide range of colors and patterns; integral sinks and splash; and the ability to create virtually any shape through thermal-forming. Solid surfacing weighs ca. 5.5 lbs per square foot.

Quartz Surfaces: grout joints; numerous edge options but limited finish options; appearance and hardness of natural stone; excellent design opportunities; top-mount or under mount sinks. Quartz surface weighs ca. 20 lbs per square foot.
